Unlocking the mines

The "Re-opening The Mines" quest arrives on Spring 6, and you need Stone Town Rank to open the mines.

Before you go: complete the "Do Bro a Favor" quest from the quest board — it rewards a Pickaxe. Bring health and stamina items; monsters in the mines deal real damage.

Mine biomes

The mines run deep and split into four main biomes:

BiomeFloors
Upper Mines1–19
Tide Caverns21–39
Deep Earth41–59
Lava Caves61–79

An elevator activates every 5 floors, so you can travel back to any unlocked checkpoint without re-climbing. Floor 1 never spawns monsters — a kindness before things get spicy.

How to descend

You find ladders to go deeper. Ladders hide inside rocks and inside monsters you kill. So mine every rock and fight every enemy to progress.

Mining rewards

  • Ores and gems — the only reliable pipeline for upgrading your gear.
  • Loot and coin — enemies drop items and a bit of Tesserae.
  • Essence — purple wisps drop from mining and other activities; spend them at Caldarus statues.
  • Combat & Mining perks — on floor 1 you find another Caldarus statue that unlocks Combat and Mining skill perks.

Tool upgrades (sideways, not in a line)

You do not have to upgrade tools one tier at a time. Want the Silver Watering Can while still holding the worn starter? You only need silver ingots and the Blacksmithing level.

Tools come in Copper, Iron, and Silver, each stronger than the last. Forge them at the anvil outside the Blacksmith’s shop (northwest edge of town) using ore from the mines.

Priority advice: pour your first upgrade into the Watering Can (bigger watering coverage buys back minutes every morning). A Copper Pickaxe is a close second — it smashes the larger rocks blocking your path.

Survival tips

  1. Bring food to refill stamina — don’t pass out underground.
  2. Watch the clock — you end the day when you pass out, and the descent is long.
  3. Short runs early — until your farm loop is stable, keep mining trips short and resource-focused.
  4. Each biome shift = harder fights — treat the biome change as a difficulty signal.
  5. Stash overflow in chests — half of what you grab underground matters later; don’t sell in a panic.
