How romance works

Fields of Mistria has 12 marriage candidates — six male, six female (the final candidate was added in 1.0). You raise each resident’s friendship through:

  1. Talking to them daily — a small heart gain every day.
  2. Gifting items they like or love — the fastest way to build hearts.
  3. Heart events — after every 2 hearts, an event appears in your journal or on the request board that significantly boosts your bond.

In 1.0, hearts cap at 10 hearts, with dedicated proposal and wedding events for every candidate. Your Early Access save carries over with full relationship progression intact.

All 12 marriage candidates

Adeline

Mistria’s leader. Sister of Eiland, daughter of the Baron and Baroness. Organized, direct, and friendly — she runs the town’s administration after the earthquake.

  • Birthday: Winter 18

Balor

The traveling merchant, confident and flirtatious. He brings goods into Mistria and is the first bachelor you meet.

  • Birthday: Summer 10

Caldarus

The mysterious shapeshifting dragon. Added as the 11th romance candidate; he guards Mistria and is tied to the magic flowing through the land.

Celine

The gardener, daughter of General Store owners Holt and Nora. Friendly but a little shy — she gives you your first seeds and is intensely interested in plants.

  • Birthday: Summer 14

Eiland

Mistria’s archaeologist and head of the Historical Society. A massive nerd — he runs the town’s weekly D&D-style gathering. Brother of Adeline.

Hayden

Owner of Sweetwater Farm, where you get supplies for raising animals. Kind, protective, and has a chicken named Henrietta.

Juniper

The sorceress who runs the Bathhouse. Self-assured and confident, she spends her time testing potions and spells — though they don’t always go as planned.

March

Mistria’s blacksmith. Initially standoffish and kind of rude, but genuinely sweet when you get past the shell. Brother of Olric.

Reina

The head cook at the Sleeping Dragon Inn. Inviting and flirtatious — delicious food is definitely the way to her heart.

Ryis

Mistria’s carpenter. Hardworking, cerebral, and genuinely nice. He has the earliest birthday on the calendar, so he’s easy to romance quickly.

  • Likes: wood as a gift

Valen

Mistria’s doctor. Her family has lived in Mistria for generations; she has a dry sense of humor and often drinks with Juniper at the Inn’s weekly gathering.

The twelfth candidate

NPC Studio added the final romance candidate in 1.0, completing the set of six male and six female characters. Check in-game after the 1.0 update to meet them.

Romance tips

  1. Learn 2–3 loved gifts per candidate — gift them on birthdays for the biggest friendship spikes.
  2. Gift every day — but don’t gift the same item twice in a row if it’s not liked; focus on loved/liked items.
  3. Hearts events unlock at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 hearts in 1.0 — always complete them.
  4. Befriend everyone, not just your spouse — higher hearts with all villagers unlock recipes, shop discounts, and story beats.
  5. Caldarus’s statue (unlocked day 3) lets you spend Essence on perks that make socializing easier.
