Fields of Mistria Skills Guide: All 9 Skills & Essence Perks
Every skill in Fields of Mistria — Farming, Fishing, Mining, Combat, Ranching, Cooking, Woodcrafting, Blacksmithing, Archaeology — and how Essence and Caldarus perks work.
How skills work
Nine skills quietly track everything you do:
Farming, Fishing, Mining, Combat, Ranching, Cooking, Woodcrafting, Blacksmithing, Archaeology.
You level a skill by doing the thing — there’s no separate grind. Water crops and Farming ticks up; break rocks underground and Mining climbs on its own. The level cap is 60.
Essence and Caldarus perks
Essence is the layer that rewards playing broadly. Chopping, mining, farming, fishing, and foraging all have a chance to drop little purple wisps.
- You can’t sense them until Caldarus gifts you the ability early in your first spring.
- Carry them to Caldarus’s statues and trade them for Skill Perks.
- The first perk tier opens at level 1; the rest unlock as you climb toward the level 60 cap.
- Early perks are cheap — grab them the moment you can.
Perk examples: a perk that refunds stamina on watering, or one that boosts you for going to bed spent — both change how many hours your day really holds.
Statue locations
- Farm statue: Caldarus’s statue in your village (unlocked by day 3) — handles Farming, Fishing, Ranching, Cooking, Woodcrafting, Blacksmithing, and Archaeology perks.
- Mines statue: another Caldarus statue on floor 1 of the mines — handles Combat and Mining perks.
Skill tiers
Each skill has multiple tiers, with each tier containing 4 perks. Tiers unlock at 15-level intervals (level 15, 30, 45, 60). Click a perk to see its effect; the better the perk, the more Essence it costs.
Leveling tips
- Farming: plant regrowable crops — every harvest ticks Farming.
- Fishing: fish on rainy days — weather fish + consistent ticks.
- Mining: short daily mine runs on floors 1–19.
- Combat: fighting monsters in the mines levels it alongside Mining.
- Cooking / Blacksmithing: use the Inn pot and the anvil — they pull ingredients from storage (global inventory).
- Archaeology: dig the circular spots with a Pickaxe or Shovel.
- Focus one skill to level 15 first — it unlocks the second tier cheaply and makes the rest of the loop easier.
